Statistics

The United States is in the midst of a perfect health care storm:

  • Cost of care continues to sky-rocket.
  • Access to primary care (like family physicians) or any health care at all is shrinking.
  • There is a surge of preventable diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers.

Nationally, 48 million Americans do not have health insurance;  In Wisconsin, 5 residents die every week due to lack of insurance.

  • The Chippewa Valley Free Clinic has served 5,800 patients since opening in 1997.
  • These patients have received over 25,000 visits.
  • Roughly 800 individuals are served per year, half of whom view CVFC as a medical home.
  • The uninsured visit the emergency room at twice the rate of the uninsured.
  • It costs $404 to serve one patient for one year at our clinic.  This includes exams, labs, imaging such as x-rays, medications, and some specialty care.
  • CVFC distributes over $1 million of medications per year at a cost just shy of $100,000.  For every $1 donated, we can provide over $10 to our patients.
