Volunteers
There are a variety of different volunteer positions, all of which are indispensable to the operation of the clinic. Providers, nurses, lab and pharmacy technicians, social workers and receptionists are all positions which must be filled for CVFC to operate properly. We also have volunteers who do special projects and volunteers who provide food on Clinic evenings. There is a volunteer medical director and a volunteer assistant medical director as well as a group of volunteer board members. Currently, over 200 people volunteer their time and service for the needs of their community. This number is continuing to grow with more and more prospective and new volunteers.
Providers lead the medical team in diagnosing and treating disease and illness. Responsibilities include clinical assessment, evaluation, and the development of treatment plans.
Nurses offer patient care and provider assistance. Patient education, treating patients and helping in their rehabilitation, and providing advice and emotional support to patients and families are some responsibilities of nurse volunteers.
Lab technicians collect specimens and perform laboratory tests that
providers rely on to diagnose and treat patients. Responsibilities include accurate collection procedures and careful testing to ensure precise results.
Pharmacy technicians (med room volunteers)
assist the medication program coordinator in preparing medications. Tasks include receiving medications from donors, pharmaceutical companies, and vendors, preparing medication orders for distribution to patients, evaluating Patient Assistance Program (PAP) opportunities and applying for appropriate cases, stocking and processing inventory and working collaboratively with providers to facilitate medication accessibility and procurement.
Social service volunteers work with patients to verify patient eligibility for services and assess/refer patients to additional resources. Responsibilities include providing a confidential environment for patients, documenting patient information, and referring patients for additional resources.
Receptionists assist patients through the registration process. Managing patient charts, retrieving and recording patient information, creating new patient profiles, and scheduling patients for appointments as requested by staff are some of the responsibilities of receptionist volunteers.
